Dogfish Head Squall IPA (2009 original review)

In response to Gary & Melissa IMASOFAT's challenge to not only FIND a bottle of Dogfish Head Squall IPA but to decide if it's the best beer ever made, I enlisted the help of the YouTube Beer-Reviewer ALL STARS!

All four of us shot our own intro to this video and all four of us will be uploading differently-edited versions of it.

NOTE: I didn't write a text review of this at the time, but here's my 2016 re-review:

   AROMA 8/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 8/10   PALATE 3/5   OVERALL 16/20 Chad9976 (1606) - Lakeland, Florida, USA - MAY 26, 2016

2015 BJCP Category: 22A Double IPA

AROMA: Sweet floral and candy aroma. Some berry and perfume. No malt or alcohol presence. 9/12

APPEARANCE: Flame orange; mostly clear. Large, eggshell, frothy head. Good retention and lacing. 3/3

FLAVOR: Surprisingly well-balanced for the style. Some sweet amber maltiness complemented by candy/berry/floral hops. Bitterness is restrained and does not feel like 90 IBUs. Some pine flavor on the finish. Alcohol is part of the palette, but not distracting. Satisfying and enjoyable. 16/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium-full body; noticeable thick though soft and smooth. Carbonation is a bit low despite being bottle-conditioned. Finishes rather clean with minor resiny aftertaste. Alcohol warmth is part of the experience. 3/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: A fine strong IPA, but not as special as it’s marketed and packaged. 8/10
