So how did a lead brewer for one of America's biggest craft breweries end up in my kitchen? Well, Alex came across some of my reviews of Redhook's beers on Beer Advocate from early 2009 which were summarily negative. He contacted me and said he didn't think I gave them a fair shake and he'd be more than happy to give me some fresh beer as well as some exclusive rarities if I'd re-review them. Not surprisingly I said yes.
Alex was in town for a completely unrelated function and said he could personally drop off the beer to my house. I grabbed my camera when he showed up and asked if I could do a "quick" interview with him (which I thought would only be 5-10 minutes), but we wound up talking for about an hour!
I edited the entire interview down to two distinct videos. In this part I ask Alex what it's like to work as a lead brewer, whether certain beers are "better" than others and make a few requests. Also, Alex tells me a little about the history and operations of Redhook, their relationship with Anheuser-Busch and Craft Brewers Alliance, Inc. and how he got into the beer brewing business.
In part 2 we'll talk about the beers he gave me.
Thanks again to Alex for the beers and agreeing to do the interview!
