Keegan Ales Super Kitty (2009 vintage)

To celebrate passing the 1,000 subscriber mark on YouTube I asked the Imasofats to meet me at Aroma Thyme Bistro to drink and review Keegan Ales "Super Kitty." Aroma Thyme's 2009 keg of Super Kitty is the ONLY keg of this beer available in all of New York state!

I had a 2009 vintage on tap at Aroma Thyme Bistro.

Appearance: beautiful shade of red, like wine. Not much head though.

Smell: intense pine with slight citrus and dark fruit notes. No booze smell.

Taste: starts off like an imperial ipa and quickly turns into an American barleywine. Extremely rich and sweet like organic maple syrup. Dark fruit notes of fig and dates. Very bitter in the back end, but the hops don’t linger. This beer is brewed with 100lbs of organic honey and it shows.

Drinkability: Difficult to drink in anything other than sips but it doesn’t destroy your palate. Smooth finish.

Mouthfeel: thick and sticky but no alcohol burn.

Overall: very impressive. This beers ages well. I’d prefer something closer to an imperial ipa but the barleywine composition is quite satisfying.

Grade: 9/10
