Alexander Keith's Red Amber Ale

Another beer sent from Fo AKA "Weird Beer" - this is actually a beer I've been wanting to review for a long time. I got a glass for this beer when I was in Halifax in 2007 and since then I've never been able to drink the actual beer since Alexander Keith's beers are distributed to the USA (or at least not to upstate, NY).

Thanks again to Fo for the beer. I still have another beer he sent to review.

Poured a 16oz can sent to me from a friend in Canada into the official stout-like glass for this beer I got while in Canada.

APPEARANCE: Very pretty shade of clear reddish copper/mahogany. Big fluffy, eggshell, creamy head. Leaves some lacing and doesn’t completely vanish.

AROMA: Next to nothing. Smells like Canadian macro can beer. Not foul, but nothing appealing.

TASTE: Not foul tasting, but an extreme lack of redeeming qualities. In other words - bland. It’s hard to believe a beer can look this good and have nothing to show for it. I close my eyes and concentrate I get a slightly toasted cereal malt, a drop of caramel sweetness. While cold it’s refreshing, but nothing substantial to the palate, here.

Mouthfeel: wet and watery. Finishes clean as a whistle.

DRINKABILITY: chuggable for sure because it’s so bland and smooth. Only 5% ABV helps.

OVERALL: This is the third beer from this brewery I’ve had and ALL have been ridiculously bland and watery. These guys don’t know how to make beer.

Grade: 4/10
