So back in my early days of video beer reviewing I had this poster called "The Beerodic Table" which you've probably seen before. It's a generalized guideline of beer styles. When I was learning about craft beer back in the day I actually found it to be pretty useful.
In May of 2009 I reviewed Stone Arrogant Bastard Ale for the first time:
I liked it a lot at the time (I scored it a 9 out of 10), and I still do today.
today, over four years later I see this video on Stone's official
YouTube channel of Greg Koch correcting me on something I said in that video:
my review, I pointed to the poster and said "There's no such thing as
an American Strong Ale." In his video, Greg says yes there is and
Arrogant Bastard Ale pretty much invented the style. He wasn't being a
jerk about it, he was just offering a sincere correction. Also, Greg
didn't imply that it was something I did recently. I'll be curious to
see if people in the comments section pick up on the fact it's in
reference to something over four years old.
I found the video
fascinating, surprising, and a bit perplexing since it's in response to
something I said and did over four years ago. I'm not really sure why he
thought that would be something worth uploading a video over now, but I
appreciate the publicity.
Still, it was pretty awesome seeing
one of America's craft beer rock stars personally give me feedback in a
very public way and also in a polite, non-sarcastic, non-trolling way.
