AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
2015 BJCP Category: 29B Fruit and Spice Beer
AROMA: Piney hops, slightly resiny. Fruity aroma like juice concentrate imparts brightness. Ginger is very faint. 9/12
APPEARANCE: Dark hazy copper/rusty orange. Large tan foamy head mostly dissipates. Some lacing. 2/3
FLAVOR: Classic East Coast-style IPA with dank resiny hop flavor. Apricot and mango give it a juicy flavor up front, but fade quickly. Ginger emerges on finish to create some warmth and spicy bite. Some tea-like flavor in the aftertaste (tannins?). Great marriage of fruit, spice and hops. 16/20
MOUTHFEEL: Medium body, fairly smooth texture and finish. Minor alcohol warmth complements the ginger. Medium CO2 for support. 5/5
OVERALL IMPRESSION: Marketed as an IPA with fruit and spices and delivers on promise. Fruit and spices are a garnish rather than a main course, but too strong to rate this as a regular IPA. Interesting recipe and fun to drink. Great meal accompaniment. 8/10
TOTAL SCORE: 40/50
