Duchesse de Bourgogne

   AROMA 6/10   APPEARANCE 3/5   TASTE 8/10   PALATE 3/5   OVERALL 15/20Chad9976 (1568) - Orlando, Florida, USA - MAR 30, 2016

2015 BJCP Category: 23B Flanders Red Ale

AROMA: Prominent vinegar aroma, though also a rich sweetness of vanilla is noticeable. Some red wine-like notes. 7/12

APPEARANCE: Dark burgundy hue; very cloudy body. Small tan foamy head; decent lacing. 2/3

FLAVOR: Tartness up front with dark fruit flavors through the middle. Mildly sour with currant and sour cherry notes throughout. Some red wine flavor and dryness. Woody quality on back end plus sweet vanilla. 16/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium bodied, but with low CO2 to make it feel more viscous. Acidic prickling sensation as it goes down plus noticeable heat in the throat. 3/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Vinegar-like presence takes some getting used to, but palette is otherwise enjoyable. Nice combo of sweet, tart and sour. Probably a poorly-handled bottle. 7/10
