Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple Ale

   AROMA 8/10   APPEARANCE 5/5   TASTE 8/10   PALATE 4/5   OVERALL 17/20Chad9976 (1569) - Orlando, Florida, USA - MAR 31, 2016

2015 BJCP Category: 26D Belgian Dark Strong Ale

AROMA: Strong caramel/butterscotch/treacle aroma. Rich maltiness and dark/dried fruit. Some alcohol presence. 10/12

APPEARANCE: Dark rusty copper/burnt umber/light brown. Extremely hazy but bubbles visible at edge. Large, tan, frothy head. Fantastic lacing and retention. 3/3

FLAVOR: Confectionery sweetness first and foremost. Rich, bready malt presence. Some peppery sensation on the finish. Some dark/dried fruit. Very tasty, but not quite as complex as superior examples of the style. 17/20

MOUTHFEEL: Full-bodied all the way. Creamy texture and smooth going down. Alcohol is prominent, but not abrasive. Finishes quite clean. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Much sweeter than most Belgian quads. Instead of fruit, it’s confectionery notes. Very drinkable for such a huge brew. Not mind-blowing, but definitely impressive and memorable. 8/10
