Tampa Bay Reef Donkey

   AROMA 8/10   APPEARANCE 3/5   TASTE 7/10   PALATE 2/5   OVERALL 13/20Chad9976 (1572) - Orlando, Florida, USA - APR 7, 2016

2015 BJCP Category: 18B American Pale Ale
AROMA: Strong fruity hop aroma, slight grass component. No distinctive malt scent. 10/12

APPEARANCE: Dull orange/dark gold color. Very cloudy but CO2 visible. Small, white foam. Little lacing. 2/3

FLAVOR: Hop forward in flavor. Citrusy pith and grassy herbal notes. Slightly spicy background note. Grainy blonde malt offers balance, but is not particularly sweet. Lemony/sherry flavor indicates an old can (no freshness date). Some iced tea taste on the finish (tannins?). Enjoyable, but not amazing. 13/20

MOUTHFEEL: Body feels a little too light for the palette. CO2 seems a little low. Texture is watery and flat, not crisp. Finishes fairly clean. Some alcohol warmth on the finish is odd. 2/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: There’s definitely a more-than-solid brew at the core here. Taste is good, but old age hinders it. Mouthfeel needs work too. 6/10
