Abita Big Easy IPA

   AROMA 8/10   APPEARANCE 3/5   TASTE 7/10   PALATE 3/5   OVERALL 14/20Chad9976 (1608) - Lakeland, Florida, USA - MAY 29, 2016

2015 BJCP Category: 30A Spice/Herb/Vegetable and 21A American IPA

AROMA: Strong lemon citrus zest and spicy/grassy scent. 9/12

APPEARANCE: Pale orange/maize; hazy body with some visible CO2. Small, white, foamy head. Decent lacing. 2/3

FLAVOR: Hop forward to be sure. Lemonpeel character is strong - almost to the point of being medicinal (i.e. cough drop). Grassiness lingers in the background to create for light spicy flavor. Enough malt to give it backbone, but no distinctiveness or sweetness. It was better on tap. 14/20

MOUTHFEEL: Light+ body; extremely carbonated which makes it difficult to get down. Slight lingering peppery flavor, but eventually finishes clean. 3/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Not nearly as good in bottle as draught, but a fine Session IPA. 7/10
