AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20ChadPolenz (1617) - Lakeland, Florida, USA - JUN 15, 2016
2015 BJCP Category: 18B American Pale Ale
AROMA: Huge hop aroma, especially tropical fruit; candy; melon. No malt presence, though. 10/12
APPEARANCE: Orange proper hue; fairly cloudy; no visible CO2. Small, off white foam. Decent lacing. 2/3
High hop flavor from start to finish. Taste is quite grassy and pithy;
slightly spicy. Not juicy or fruity as the aroma would indicate.
Bitterness is quite high for the style; this could pass as an IPA. No
malt distinctiveness - just enough presence to offer support. Dry,
bitter aftertaste. 15/20
MOUTHFEEL: Body seems light for the ABV.
Never "thin," just lighter than expected; always crisp. Perhaps a
little over-carbed. 3/5
OVERALL IMPRESSION: The hop presence is
enjoyable, but the beer is a little out of balance. Less bitterness,
more malt presence and body and it’d be a perfect pale ale. 7/10
