Rochester Mills Newton's ALEchemy Double IPA

   AROMA 6/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 3/10   PALATE 2/5   OVERALL 9/20Chad9976 (1611) - Lakeland, Florida, USA - JUN 2, 2016

2015 BJCP Category: 22A Double IPA

AROMA: Orange, pineapple and slight grassy aroma. Some lemon coughdrop. 9/12

APPEARANCE: Bright orange hue over a murky body. CO2 and sediment visible. Large, white, froth with great lacing. 3/3

FLAVOR: Hops impart OJ concentrate flavor, especially on the finish. Palette has a strong yeasty flavor; slightly sulfury and phenolic. There’s a spicy/peppery taste that lingers (and is rather gross). Nowhere near as bitter as the style should be; seems incomplete. 8/20

MOUTHFEEL: Full bodied, but a little under-carbonated. Texture is smooth and soft. Alcohol burns the sinuses when i exhale. Aftertaste is not pleasant. 2/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Seems to be emulating the New England style, but doesn’t come close. Needs more actual bitterness and a different hop selection. 4/10
