2015 BJCP Category: 30A Spice/Herb/Vegetable (base style: 20C Imperial Stout)

AROMA: Salted Caramel ice cream; some vanilla extract. Sweet but not repulsive. Not much base brew aroma. 9/12

APPEARANCE: Inky opaque black; no highlight. Small, tan, foam. Poor retention. 2/3

FLAVOR: Strong salted caramel flavor immediately, followed by traditional imperial stout character. Dark malt is robust through middle with slight sour grape flavor. No roasted/burnt malt. Hops impart dry bitterness to balance the additives’ sweetness. Finishes with a creme brulee taste. Alcohol is noticeable, but not distracting. Palette is a bit simple and repetitive, but very tasty. A borderline FMB. 17/20

MOUTHFEEL: Full-bodied for sure with low CO2 (acceptable for style). Texture is a little sticky with gentle alcohol warmth. Some lingering dryness which fades eventually. Can be sipped or gulped. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: It delivers on its name; though it’s rather repetitive and borderline gimmicky. Still, taste is great as is drinkability. Plenty to like here. 8/10
