Spencer Trappist Ale (2016 re-review)

2015 BJCP Category: 26A Trappist Single

AROMA: Sweet orangepeel and honey plus slight clove/nutmeg spiciness. 9/12

APPEARANCE: Orange/cloudy amber. Body is hazy, but CO2 visible. Billowy off-white foam. 2/3

FLAVOR: More sweet than bitter, with pronounced orange character. Slight coriander or other peppery spice (from the yeast esters). Slight lemony/honey flavor indicative of oxidation. Yeasty. 14/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium body; well-carbonated but not prickly. Goes down smooth and finishes dry. Not boozy. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Probably an old bottle; doesn’t improve with age. Enjoyable for what it is, though. 7/10
