Innis & Gunn Rum Aged

   AROMA 8/10   APPEARANCE 3/5   TASTE 8/10   PALATE 3/5   OVERALL 14/20ChadPolenz (1651) - Lakeland, Florida, USA - JUL 24, 2016

2015 BJCP Category: 33A Wood Aged Beer (base brew: 17A British Strong Ale)

AROMA: Sweet red fruits; some butterscotch essence; strong vanilla presence from the wood. 9/12

APPEARANCE: Beautiful burgundy hue; clear; CO2 visible. Large off-white foam mostly dissipates. 2/3

FLAVOR: Huge red fruit flavors, akin to fruit punch or sangria. Toffee flavor is quite prominent with butterscotch on the finish. Rum component is subtle, but noticeable and works as a nice complement to the base palette. Slightly metallic presence. 15/20

MOUTHFEEL: Body feels a little light at only medium proper. Slightly crisp, but smooth with a finish that’s probably a little too clean. No alcohol warmth. 3/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Not quite as robust as some of the better British strong ales, though the rum component is a nice enhancement. 7/10
