2015 BJCP Category: 8A Munich Dunkel

AROMA: Toasty malts; dark chocolate; iced coffee; sweet but not cloying. Clean fermentation. 10/12

APPEARANCE: Deep brown/black with red highlights. Small, tan, foam eventually dissipates. 2/3

FLAVOR: Surprisingly sweet for the style; dark, toasted malt (not burnt or deeply roasted). Slight nut character in the background. Finish with strong toffee/chocolate flavors. Mild spicy hop bitterness for balance. Delicious. 18/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium body, but still quite crisp. Sweet but not cloying. Smooth and highly quaffable. 5/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Almost a perfect beer. Impressive considering so few American breweries make this style. Probably the best of the style I’ve had. 9/10
