2015 BJCP Category: 33A Wood-Aged Beer (base style: 14C Scottish Export)

AROMA: Sweet butterscotch candy; some light apple character. Wood is faint. 9/12

APPEARANCE: Rusty brownish/orange; mostly clear. Small, tan foam mostly dissipates. 1/3

FLAVOR: Red apple flavor, but not cider-tasting per se. Mild toffee and butterscotch notes, with a strong sensation at the finish. Wood character is faint and imparts minor earthy flavor. Some butter in the aftertaste. Almost not hop presence. Not bad, but not much of a palette to latch onto. 12/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium-low body and CO2. Feels flat and a little slick. No alcohol presence. 3/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Has the basic elements of the style, but is in no way superior because it’s oak aged. 6/10

TOTAL SCORE: 31/50
