2015 BJCP Category: 30A Spice/Herb/Vegetable (base style: 19C American Brown Ale)

AROMA: Espresso, pine/resin and citrus. Plenty of brown malt. 8/12

APPEARANCE: Murky rusty brown/mahogany. Moderate tan foam; trace lacing. 2/3

FLAVOR: Brown/amber malt presence throughout, though not especially sweet. Consistent earthy/spicy sensation from hops. Espresso flavor emerges as it goes down and is quite spicy (not quite jalapeno-like, but close). Flavors do blend, though the base brew doesn’t seem to be enhanced much by the espresso. 12/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium body; fairly high carbonation. Smooth. Brief coffee aftertaste fades away cleanly. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Average brown ale with a little coffee bonus flavor. Fine, but not worth the premium price. 6/10

TOTAL SCORE: 31/50
