2015 BJCP Category: 21A American IPA

AROMA: Sweet tropical fruit juice concentrate. Mango and pineapple are prominent. Some malt presence as well. No boozy character. 9/12

APPEARANCE: Rusty copper hue; very cloudy body. Large beige foam retains and laces well. 3/3

FLAVOR: Noticeably sweet from beginning to end. Confectionery-like flavors of caramel and toffee, but not rich or cloying. Bitterness is moderate up front with a dank/lightly spicy sensation. Hop taste emerges on the backend with pineapple/mango flavors. Slight lollipop flavor at the finish is mostly likely the alcohol. Flavors work well together, but palette is balanced a bit sweet for the style. 15/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium body and CO2. Smooth texture but also noticeably crisp. Hops linger momentarily, but aftertaste is not astringent. No alcohol warmth. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: One of the sweeter IPAs I’ve had, yet it’s still to spec. An enjoyable, interesting and innovative brew. 8/10

TOTAL SCORE: 39/50
