2015 BJCP Category: 30A Spice/Herb/Vegetable (base style: 13C English Porter)

AROMA: Strong authentic coconut aroma; some cocoa nibs or dark chocolate. No distinct malts or hops. 9/12

APPEARANCE: Inky black (very dark brown) body; large tan froth retains and laces well. 3/3

FLAVOR: Coconut and chocolate immediately recognizable. Closer inspection reveals a general dark malt base without roast or astringency. Some caramel/toffee flavors. General cola-like sweetness throughout, but not cloying. Dark chocolate and coconut are present in the background, but emerge very strongly on the finish and complement each other very well. Little to no malt distinctiveness; hops impart mild dry bitterness. No alcohol presence. 16/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium body; medium-low CO2. Texture is slightly creamy, but not overtly viscous. Pleasant coconut/chocolate aftertaste. No alcohol presence. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Has the taste of a liquid candy bar without cloying decadence. More base style would be nice, but this is a tasty beer. 9/10

TOTAL SCORE: 41/50
