DOB: 1/8/2017

2015 BJCP Category: 30A Spice/Herb/Vegetable (base style: 22A Double IPA)

AROMA: Dank citrusy hops akin to juice concentrate. A clean floral/perfume aroma. No chocolate or coffee. No malt distinctiveness. 8/12

APPEARANCE: Dark orange; translucent. Large sediment particles float in suspension. Large off-white foamy head. 2/3

FLAVOR: Strong palette of dank hop intensity. Flavor matches the nose: citrusy juice concentrate up front with piney/earthy spiciness on the finish. Malt base creates for a familiar sweetness, but is not distinctive. Coffee only emerges very briefly as it finishes and does not linger. Chocolate is undetectable. Alcohol is a major component to the palette. 13/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium-full body; medium-low carbonation. Texture is soft and smooth but thick. Alcohol creates for some minor warmth. Some dry astringency lingers, but is tolerable. 3/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Not a bad beer, (a to-spec DIPA, actually). It just doesn’t deliver on its promise of a chocolate and coffee DIPA. 6/10
