DOC: 2/1/2017

2015 BJCP Category: 28B Mixed-Fermentation Sour Beer (base style: 18B American Pale Ale)

AROMA: Fairly strong presence of American tropical fruit-like hops. Some caramel specialty malt sweetness is noticeable. There is a noticeable tartness to the nose, slightly barnyard but not sour or acidic. 10/12

APPEARANCE: Maize/pale orange hue; fairly clear body. Moderate off-white foam mostly evaporates. 2/3

FLAVOR: Tartness and a slight acidity are immediately noticeable, but are not intense or overboard. A bit of a farmhouse character on the first half with a general wheaty/pale malt taste (no perceived sweetness). American hops impart a fruity flavor and mild bitterness at the apex. Tartness and fruity hop flavors all emerge on the finish and complement each other very well. 18/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium-light body and moderate carbonation. Quite crisp in the mouth but never spastic. Feels lighter and more sessionable than its 5.4% ABV. Refreshing with a brief tart aftertaste which fades away cleanly. 5/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Lives up to its tagline of a tart pale ale. A great balance of an APA with wild/funky character. 10/10
