AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
DOC: ?
2015 BJCP Category: 20A American Porter
AROMA: Medium-light dark malt presence; slight coffee or burnt toast character. Minor cocoa sweetness. No distinct hop aromas. 8/12
APPEARANCE: Deep magenta/black hue. Clear. Large tan foam retains and laces well. 3/3
FLAVOR: Malt-forward palette of lightly sweet, bready flavor. There is a consistent undercurrent of coffee imparting bitterness and balance. A bit of a cocoa powder flavor seems to emerge on the finish. Some dark fruity flavor and sweetness appear in the aftertaste. Hops are low and nondescript. Mild overall but otherwise to spec. 13/20
MOUTHFEEL: Medium-light body and carbonation. Feels too thin for 5.8% ABV. Smooth and quaffable. Not rich enough to be dessert; but too heavy to session. 3/5
OVERALL IMPRESSION: An easy-to-drink dark ale that would really work if it committed to a style. 6/10
TOTAL SCORE: 33/50
