DOB: ?

2015 BJCP Category: 30A Spice/Herb/Vegetable Beer (base style: 18A Blonde Ale)

AROMA: Very sweet nose reminiscent of pumpkin pie (sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg) and iced mocha (coffee, chocolate). Unsure if vanilla presence is from barrels or ingredients. No malt or hop distinctiveness. No alcohol. 10/12

APPEARANCE: Golden/copper hue; mostly clear. Large white froth retains and laces well. 3/3

FLAVOR: Sweet palette throughout with a cookie-like taste up front and a strong spicy sensation on the finish. Chocolate, coffee, cinnamon and nutmeg are all prominent flavors and pair surprisingly well together. Essentially a pumpkin/mocha hybrid. Base malt is fairly simple and nondescript; strong enough to lay a solid foundation but doesn’t overshadow the spices. Hops are difficult to distinguish from the additives, but the beer doesn’t feel unbalanced or cloying. I detect no Merlot barrel character, though. 16/20

MOUTHFEEL: Full-bodied with moderate carbonation. Texture is smooth and mouthfeel is comfortable. For 10% ABV, the alcohol is quite tame and actually complementary. Surprisingly drinkable for such a big beer. 5/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Delicious, creative, and very drinkable = impressive. Judging it to style is a virtually impossible, though. 9/10
