DOC: 11/14/2016

2015 BJCP Category: 21A American IPA

AROMA: Strong pineapple aroma with background notes of lemon peel and a slight spiciness. Minor clean malt presence but nothing distinctive. 9/12

APPEARANCE: Yellow proper hue; clear body. Moderate off-white foam retains and laces well enough. 2/3

FLAVOR: Familiar West Coast-style palette with fairly strong pineapple, lemon, and a minor spicy taste on the finish. The lemon character could be oxidation, but it complements the natural fruit flavor of the hops quite well as to not be too distracting. It does add some sweetness, though. Malt base is rather simple and nondescript, but at least offers balance. 14/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium body and matching carbonation. Somewhat crisp, also smooth. Slightly refreshing in the mouth with a lingering pineapple aftertaste. Seems about right for 6% ABV with no alcohol presence. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: A fine West Coast-style IPA, but it’s almost a decade late to market. Enjoyable, but not wholly original. 7/10

TOTAL SCORE: 36/50
