BBD: 6/18/2017

2015 BJCP Category: 29A Fruit Beer (base style: 19C American Brown Ale)

AROMA: Moderate sweetness with notes of chocolate, caramel and toasted almond. A bit of a coffee presence, too. No cherry aroma at all. No hop presence. 7/12

APPEARANCE: Deep mahogany/brown proper. Large off-white foam retains and laces well. 3/3

FLAVOR: Moderately sweet brown malt with a nutty/earthy flavor on the first half. Chocolate and caramel flavors emerge briefly on the backend but the palette is not that sweet. Mild hop bitterness imparts balance and slight earthy taste. Cherry can only be tasted momentarily in the aftertaste; reminiscent of soda or cough syrup. 12/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium body and carbonation. Smooth texture; comfortable mouthfeel overall. Seems lighter than 5.8% ABV. Clean aftertaste is nice. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: A decent brown ale at the core, but fails to be the fruit beer it’s marketed as. 6/10
