2015 BJCP Category: 21A American IPA

AROMA: Prominent Mosaic hop aroma of herbs and pineapple. Slight citrus presence, but overall it’s more spicy than juicy. A light sweet pale malt scent. No alcohol. 9/12

APPEARANCE: Golden/maize/pale orange color. Clear body. Large white frothy head retains and laces well. 3/3

FLAVOR: First half is a bit mild with a citrus pith taste along with grassy/herbal sensation. Pineapple juice-like flavor emerges at the apex briefly, followed by a strong spicy/bready taste akin to rye bread. Actual bitterness is tame; malt presence is enough for balance, but imparts little sweetness and distinct flavor. Leaves a piney/herbal aftertaste. 15/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium body and carbonation. Smooth texture. Slight starchy/astringent aftertaste but it’s tolerable. Seems smaller than 7% ABV. Would probably make a good dinner drink. 3/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Interesting use of spicy/herbal hops. To-spec for the style, but not a mind-blower. 7/10

TOTAL SCORE: 37/50
