2015 BJCP Category: 5D German Pils

AROMA: Lightly sweet grainy character; slight graham cracker note. Moderate spicy/floral hops. Background mineral note. 9/12

APPEARANCE: White gold hue; brilliant clarity; very effervescent. Large creamy white foam retains and laces well. 3/3

FLAVOR: Moderate-high spicy hop flavor akin to rye or black pepper. Low-moderate sweet, clean grain base with graham cracker flavor, but no residual sweetness. Aftertaste is quite dry and spicy. Clean fermentation, though there is a subtle mineral taste that diminishes over time. 15/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium-light body with medium-high carbonation. Crisp and refreshing. Very quaffable. Tempting to session at 4.8% ABV. 5/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Though not the best pilsner in the world, it’s absolutely to-spec for the style (plus fun and easy to drink). What’s not to like? 8/10

TOTAL SCORE: 40/50
