DOC: 12/5/2016

2015 BJCP Category: 18A Blonde Ale

AROMA: Moderate sweet malty aroma with a bit of a honey/lemon character (oxidation). Subtle butterscotch presence as well (diacetyl). Though flaws, these characteristics actually complement each other and are not rancid or off-putting. 7/12

APPEARANCE: Pale orange or amber hue; very cloudy. Large off-white foam evaporates quickly and completely. 1/3

FLAVOR: Moderately sweet throughout with a caramel/butterscotch taste up front and subtle honey in the background. There’s a mild spicy hop flavor and bitterness just past the apex which complements the palette nicely. The beer probably isn’t supposed to taste this way, but it’s not off-putting even though it’s flawed. 12/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium body; medium-low carbonation. Smooth and comfortable, but this should be crisp. Slight buttery/fruity aftertaste. Very quaffable for 4.5% ABV. 3/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Though clearly flawed, the overall taste is not bad and is acceptable for the style. It succeeds despite failing. 5/10

TOTAL SCORE: 28/50
