DOC: 5/10/2017

2015 BJCP Category: 21B Specialty IPA

AROMA: A moderately strong blueberry aroma is immediately evident. Citrusy/earthy hops are also noticeable and oddly complement the fruity scent. Has a light pale malt presence implying sweetness. 9/12

APPEARANCE: Dark gold/pale orange hue Mostly clear body. Very large white foam retains and laces well. 3/3

FLAVOR: Fairly strong bitterness immediately with slight pink grapefruit flavor. Blueberry character exists mostly as a background note. It’s not juicy or sweet or candy-like. It becomes most prominent just before the finish and works a supporting rather than a lead actor. Not much malt distinctiveness other than a general light sweetness for balance. There’s an earthy note to the hops which create for an astringent character which is a tad distracting. 14/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium body with medium CO2. Crisp. Hops linger but are tolerable. Seems a little lighter than 6.6% ABV. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Not bad at all, and mostly to spec for the style. Not amazing, merely interesting. 7/10

TOTAL SCORE: 37/50
