DOC: 5/9/2017

2015 BJCP Category: 29A Fruit Beer (base style: 21A American IPA)

AROMA: Strong citrusy/hoppy aroma. Spicy/herbal Mosaic hop character is equally present. There doesn’t seem to be any fruit-specific notes, unless they smell just like hops. 9/12

APPEARANCE: Clear dark amber/orange color. Moderate white foam retains and laces well. 3/3

FLAVOR: Hops dominate the palette from beginning to end with strong perceived bitterness (seems higher than 60 IBUs). Citrusy flavors for the most part (grapefruit, especially). Mosaic hops impart slight pineapple along with herbal/spice rack flavors. The fruit is difficult to distinguish from the hops, though there is a bit of a tea-like taste in the background. No juicy taste at all. To-spec as a 21A, but not as a 21B. 12/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium mouthfeel with matching CO2. Smooth but crisp. Hops linger, but astringency is tolerable. Seems about right for 5.8% ABV. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: If this were marketed as an AIPA it’d be excellent; but it comes up short as a fruity IPA. 6/10
