2015 BJCP Category: 30A Spice/Herb/Vegetable Beer (base style: 20C Imperial Stout)

AROMA: Almost identical to a Girl Scout Thin Mint cookie with sweet aroma of authentic mint anad chocolate. Some alcohol is present, but it seems to complement the bouquet. No roasted malts or other aromas typical of an imperial stout. 9/12

APPEARANCE: Opaque black proper with slight maroon highlights. Very large, brown, frothy foam retains and laces well. 3/3

FLAVOR: Just as the nose tips, this is a liquid Girl Scout cookie. Flavor is mostly chocolate and mint throughout with slight vanilla sensation on the backend due mostly to the alcohol. A base of dark malts is present, but they offer little roasted or toasted flavors (perhaps in the aftertaste). Hops offer only balance and no flavors of their own. A bit simplistic and repetitive, but quite tasty. 14/20

MOUTHFEEL: Full-bodied; medium carbonation. Texture is quite smooth. No cloying aftertaste or sticky residue. Alcohol warmth is minimal and complements the mint perfectly. 5/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: As a novelty brew this is one of the better ones I’ve had. But as an impy stout it’s lacking some key components of the style. Fun beer to drink, though. 8/10

TOTAL SCORE: 39/50
