   AROMA 7/10   APPEARANCE 3/5   TASTE 7/10   PALATE 3/5   OVERALL 12/20ChadPolenz (1792) - Lakeland, Florida, USA - JUN 13, 2017

DOC: 5/1/2017

2015 BJCP Category: 29A Fruit Beer (base style: 27 Historical Beer: Gose)

AROMA: Fairly strong clean lactic sourness; along with salt, coriander and faint tart blueberry. Fruit character definitely is a garnish; not a front-and-center smell. Significant sourdough bread base from the wheat and malt. No hops (none needed). 9/12

APPEARANCE: Pale magenta/indigo hue; very hazy. Large white foam soapy foam quickly dissipates. No lacing. 2/3

FLAVOR: Sourness is evident immediately and is quite strong (nothing subtle about it). Coriander and salt create for a moderate background spice flavor which is complemented by the clean lactic acidity. Blueberry taste is surprisingly weak; barely even noticeable at except right as it finishes. Base malt creates for a subtle, but firm, sourdough presence. Aftertaste is tart at first, but eventually becomes clean. The base style is there, but the fruit addition is barely noticeable. 14/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium-light body and carbonation. Too relaxed for the style; should be much more spastic and crisp. Feels much lighter than 5.2% ABV, though it is refreshing and would be sessionable in the summer. 3/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: As a Gose, this is on-point, but as a fruit beer it comes up short. Fun to drink even though not really to style. 6/10
