4.3

DOC:?

2015 BJCP Category: 16A Sweet Stout

AROMA: Moderate roasted malt aroma, but nothing burnt. Has a sweet cream presence plus a bit of milk chocolate. Minor floral hop presence. 10/12

APPEARANCE: Deep brown to black proper. Body is a bit murky. Large dark tan froth mostly dissipates. 2/3

FLAVOR: First half is sweet with a bit of cola-like taste. Milk chocolate also seems to be present (from the lactose sugar). There’s a mild floral hop flavor throughout. Second half emerges with a roasted malt/black coffee taste. Well-balanced palette between the sweetness and slightly astringent bitterness on finish. Clean fermentation. 18/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium-full body with medium carbonation. Texture is quite smooth and comfortable (would be ideal on nitro). Aftertaste is sweet at first, but then a little astringent. Impressive considering potency is only 5.6% ABV. Good dessert beer. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Delectable and highly drinkable dessert brew. Great example of a well-balanced sweet stout. 9/10

TOTAL SCORE: 43/50
