Destihl Wild Sour Series: Syncopathic Apricot

DOC: 06/17

2015 BJCP Category: 28C Wild Specialty Beer

AROMA: Moderately-strong sour aroma with a clean lactic presence. Almost sweet like candy. Fruit is present, but a little obscured by the sourness. Seems more like a general fruitiness than apricot proper. Slight wheat presence. Low citrusy hops. 9/12

APPEARANCE: Pale orange hue (4-5 SRM). Partly cloudy body. Large white foam mostly dissipates, but laces some. 3/3

FLAVOR: Strong sourness throughout, especially up front. Clean lactic flavor, nothing vinegary. Strong tartness on the finish lingers in the aftertaste. Apricot is rather subtle in the background, though it becomes a bit stronger and somewhat juicy as it finishes. Low citrusy hop flavor and very low bitterness (acidity and tannins dry up the palette). Wheat imparts a slight cracker-like taste. 18/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium-light body; medium carbonation. Smooth texture with a crisp, dry finish with lingering tartness. Feels much lighter and more sessionable than 6% ABV. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Though a tad unbalanced (I'd prefer more fruit); this is definitely an ideal sour fruit ale. 9/10

TOTAL SCORE: 43/50
