Dinkelacker Oktoberfestbier Märzen (2017 re-review to BJCP specs)

2015 BJCP Category: 6A Märzen

AROMA: Moderately-strong malty/bready aroma with slight toasty character. Is not sweet-smelling, but seems to imply it will be. Faint earthy hops. No alcohol. Clean fermentation. 9/12

APPEARANCE: Beautiful copper-brown hue (13-17 SRM); Large off-white foam retains and laces well. 3/3

FLAVOR: Fairly rich bready maltiness throughout. Not sweet per se, but plenty of Maillard character. Mild dry bitterness on the backend with hint of earthy/floral hop flavor. Finishes with slight caramel flavors and a generally sweet flavor. No alcohol presence. Clean fermentation. 16/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium body; medium carbonation. Smooth, comfortable texture. Slightly sweet (albeit brief) aftertaste, but far from cloying. Extremely drinkable for 5.7% ABV. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Has that elegant malt character you want in an authentic Märzen. An underrated example of the style. 9/10
