Einbecker Ur-Bock Dunkel

DOB: ? L1148253J 11

2015 BJCP Category: 6C Dunkles Bock

AROMA: Malty/bready aroma with slight toast character. Not especially sweet, though there does seem to be a subtle fruitiness. Faint earthy hops. Slight honey/lemon oxidation present. Clean lager fermentation. Mild, but to-sec. 9/12

APPEARANCE: Beautiful, clear mahogany hue (13-17 SRM). Moderate tan creamy foam retains and laces well. 3/3

FLAVOR: Malty but well-attenuated. Malt base creates for bready/toasty flavor up front with minor red fruit (cherry, plum) in the background. Bottle is clearly oxidized with a subtle honey/lemon flavor (which also explains mildness of palette overall). Faint trace of earthy hops; low bitterness, but enough to offer balance. Clean lager character. 16/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium body; medium-low carbonation. Smooth with a dry, clean aftertaste. Gentle warmth from the 6.5% ABV. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Definitely to-spec, but not especially exciting due to age of the bottle. 8/10

TOTAL SCORE: 40/50
