Kulmbacher Edelherb

DOB: ? 2026552115

2015 BJCP Category: 5D German Pils

AROMA: Hop-forward nose with a fairly strong spicy/peppery (almost skunky) character from Noble hops. Malt presence comes through as a light honey-flavored cracker character (could be oxidation). Very faint sulfur/mineral, but this blends well with everything else (acceptable for the style). 10/12

APPEARANCE: Clear golden hue (2-3 SRM). Bubbly body; large white creamy head retains and laces well. 3/3

FLAVOR: Strong hop flavor throughout with a spicy/peppery/earthy flavor and a lightly dry bitterness. Malt provides for a clean grainy-malt base up front with a burst of honey flavor and sweetness on the finish (this may be oxidation, though). Subtle mineral water character in the background, but this matches perfectly with the palette. 17/20

MOUTHFEEL: Light to medium-light body; high carbonation. Smooth, creamy texture and refreshing while in the mouth with a dry, bitter aftertaste. Easily sessionable at 4.9% ABV. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Pretty much to spec in all aspects and delectable. American hop heads would like a beer like this. 9/10

TOTAL SCORE: 43/50
