Kulmbacher Mönchshof Kellerbier

DOB: ? (2639314)

2015 BJCP Category: 7C Kellerbier

AROMA: Plenty of Continental browned malt, but nothing roasty/toasty or confectionery. Low floral/earthy hop presence. Some fruity esters in the background, otherwise clean lager fermentation. 9/12

APPEARANCE: Dark amber/light copper hue (9-13 SRM); slightly cloudy body. Large off-white foam retains and laces well. 3/3

FLAVOR: Bready continental malt throughout, but not rich nor toasty. Sweetness comes from a fruity background flavor; there are no confectionery flavors here. Hops have faded to a very low earthy/floral flavor and dry bitterness. Balance is more malty, though intensity is low to begin with. Clean lager fermentation. 15/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium body; moderately-low carbonation. Smooth texture with a clean aftertaste. Somewhat refreshing. Feels much lighter than 5.4% and is quite sessionable. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Though aged, it still exemplifies the style quite well and is very drinkable. 8/10

TOTAL SCORE: 39/50
