Mahrs Bräu Bock-Bier

DOB: ?

2015 BJCP Category: 4C Helles Bock

AROMA: Strong honey/lemon character from oxidation. Fairly strong bready scent akin to whole wheat bread (minus the wheat). Age has obscured hops. Clean fermentation. 8/12

APPEARANCE: Dark amber/copper hue (9-13 SRM); body has many fine particulates floating in suspension (should be clear). Large off-white frothy head retains and laces well. 2/3

FLAVOR: Fairly strong honey/lemon oxidation taste at the beginning and end. However, there is a much stronger presence of bready/toasty malt. Faint trace of spicy/earthy hop flavor, though bitterness is low. Does not come across as cloying and unbalanced - just old. Clean lager fermentation. 14/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium body and carbonation. Smooth, velvety texture and comfortable mouthfeel. Slightly malty aftertaste, otherwise clean. Minor alcohol warmth despite being only 6% ABV. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: This bottle has probably been through hell, but the beer inside still does a good job of representing the style. 7/10

TOTAL SCORE: 35/50
