Modelo Negra (2017 re-review to BJCP specs)

DOB: 6/8/17

2015 BJCP Category: 8A Munich Dunkel

AROMA: Browned malt, but lacking in bready/toasty notes. Seems to have background note of nuts or caramel, but is only slight sweet-smelling. Medium-low floral hops. Clean lager fermentation. 8/12

APPEARANCE: Beautiful, extremely clear copper/brown hue (13-17 SRM). Small tan foam retains well. 3/3

FLAVOR: Base malt carries most of the palette with definite presence of brown malt, but nothing in the toasty/bready flavor type. Mild caramel and nutty flavors are present, mostly on the back end. Bitterness is very low with slight floral character. Brief malty taste on the finish, otherwise clean (as is the lager fermentation). 14/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium body and carbonation. Smooth, clean texture; somewhat refreshing. Feels a bit lighter than 5.4% ABV. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: An overtly pedestrian version of the style and works as such. 7/10
