Big Storm Tropic Pressure Florida Ale

Fill date: 11/10/17

Judged to 2015 BJCP Style Guidelines for: 30A Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer (base style: 18A Blonde Ale)

AROMA: Fairly strong, clean, bright floral/juicy aroma. Hibiscus is obvious but cinnamon is not. No specialty malt character. Hops may account for a tropical fruit character. No wheaty or bready scent. Clean fermentation. 9/12

APPEARANCE: Amber/flame orange (5-7 SRM). Slightly hazy body. Large white foam never completely dissipates. 3/3

FLAVOR: Lightly bready/wheat malt base but without residual sweetness. There is a tropical flavor in the background likely due to the hops, though actual bitterness is low (but palette is balanced). The hibiscus is subtle at first, but emerges quite strongly at the apex to impart a gentle spice. Cinnamon is also a background note until the very end and complements the fruity/floral taste combinations surprisingly well. Slightly malty-sweet finish. Clean fermentation. 18/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium-light body; medium-high carbonation. Smooth, but effervescent. Very refreshing. Good drinkability and sessionable at only 4.4% ABV. 5/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Great use of spices and hops to make a delectable and highly drinkable blonde ale. Delivers as marketed. 9/10
