Coppertail BOMP

Best before date: 3/18/18

Judged to 2015 BJCP Style Guidelines for: 29A Fruit Beer (base style: 23A Berliner Weisse)

AROMA: Moderately-high sharply sour presence. A general fruity aroma, but no specific fruits stand out. Moderate sourdough bread character. No prominent Brett presence. No hops (none needed). 8/12

APPEARANCE: Pale orange hue (4-5 SRM). Opaque cloudy body reminiscent of juice. Small off-white suds fizzle away quickly and completely. 2/3

FLAVOR: Clean lactic sourness up front; fairly moderate intensity. Passionfruit lurks in the background at first; after the apex the blood orange and mango become quite prominent with a juicy taste. Tartness is moderately-low, as is sourness which emerges briefly in the aftertaste. Wheaty/sourdough bread base is present, but not prominent. Mostly to style as a 23A, but rather lacking in fruit character as a 29A. 14/20

MOUTHFEEL: Light body; medium-high carbonation. A bit too smooth and calm for the style. Refreshing and sessionable at only 3.5% ABV. 3/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Fruit selection is nice variation on the style, albeit mild. Good introductory sour beer for the layman. 6/10
