Saugatuck Maggie's Irish Ale

Fill date: 12/19/2017

Judged to 2015 BJCP Style Guidelines for: 15A Irish Red Ale

AROMA: Low malt presence with no specialty character. Light diacetyl. No discernible hops. Slightly skunky. Very boring nose. 7/12

APPEARANCE: Slightly cloudy shade of amber/pale orange (5-7 SRM). Small white head dissipates. 1/3

FLAVOR: Moderate malt presence of generic pale malt. Very little specialty character other than slight toast. Subtle buttery flavor in the background. Hops impart a firm, dry bitterness and a slight orange flavor (off style). Finish is mostly dry and clean. 11/20

MOUTHFEEL: Light bodied; moderate carbonation. Smooth texture; somewhat refreshing. Feels like a much lighter brew than 5.4% ABV. 3/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Not much of an Irish Red, though I'm not entirely sure it's supposed to be. Whatever it is, it's insipid. 4/10
