Sierra Nevada Hazy Little Thing IPA

Fill date: 12/29/17

Judged to 2015 BJCP Style Guidelines for: 21B Specialty IPA

AROMA: Huge tropical and citrus fruit aromas. Faint grassiness or spice. Base malt is basic. Clean fermentation. No alcohol presence. 11/12

APPEARANCE: Extremely hazy shade of golden/amber (5-7 SRM). Large white frothy head retains and laces wonderfully. 3/3

FLAVOR: Very high hop flavor with medium-high bitterness. Taste is akin to tropical fruit juice concentrate. Does not have the bitter astringency of citrusy pith, nor is it intensely grassy (just a little of both). Malt provides balance with a faint honey note. Hops linger briefly with mild pithy flavor; aftertaste is quite neutral otherwise. Alcohol is virtually indistinguishable. Clean fermentation. Oats and acidulated malt do not add any character of their own. 18/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium body; medium-high carbonation. Texture is soft and smooth. Quite refreshing with an aftertaste that's actually a bit too clean. Highly drinkable and tempting to session at 6.7% ABV. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: An interesting and delicious hybrid of the San Diego and New England styles. 10/10
