Coppertail Slam Piece

Best before date: 5/6/18

Judged to 2015 BJCP Style Guidelines for: 30A Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer (base style: 23A Berliner Weisse)

AROMA: Moderate clean lactic sour character. Cucumber is also present, but less intense. Seems authentic. A general pale malt/wheat presence, though low. No hops (none needed). 8/12

APPEARANCE: Brilliant shade of yellow/gold (2-4 SRM). Small white foam mostly dissipates. 3/3

FLAVOR: Clean, grainy malt throughout with a slight crackery flavor from wheat. There is a tame tartness at first which complements the malt well. Acidity is mild up front, but becomes quite intense (albeit briefly) with a lemon juice taste at the apex. Aftertaste is tart and bone dry. Cucumber flavor is a background note at all times. It does work in this context, but it's obscured by the sour and tart character. No hops (none needed). 13/20

MOUTHFEEL: Light body; high carbonation. Very drinkable and refreshing for warm weather conditions. Plenty of character for 3.5% ABV; though I'm not sure it's something really sessionable. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Interesting choice of adding cucumber to a Berliner Weisse, though I think the base brew overrides the garnish too much. 6/10
