Florida Avenue Blueberry Berliner Weisse

Fill date: 3/2/18

Judged to 2015 BJCP Style Guidelines for: 29A Fruit Beer (base style: 23A Berliner Weisse)

AROMA: Nose is nearly identical to blueberry Greek yogurt (due to the bacteria used). Smells much more tart than sour, though there is a clean acidity present. Slight sourdough character; no hops (none needed). 10/12

APPEARANCE: Deep indigo/purple/magenta hue (SRM n/a). Opaque, hazy body. Large indigo foam never completely dissipates and even laces the glass some. 3/3

FLAVOR: Fairly strong sourness and clean, lactic acidity throughout. Blueberry creates for a lightly sweet and tart yogurt-like taste, though it is not the dominate flavor. Finish is quite tart, which lingers briefly into the aftertaste, but is otherwise clean and dry. Faint bready/wheat malt presence. No Brett or hops (none needed). 17/20

MOUTHFEEL: Light body; high carbonation. Refreshing; crushable and sessionable at only 4% ABV. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: On-point for a Berliner Weisse as well as for a fruit beer. Not perfect, but pretty close. 9/10
