Anderson Valley Framboise Rose Gose

Fill date: 2/15/18

Judged to 2015 BJCP Style Guidelines for: 29A Fruit Beer (base style: 27 Historical Beer: Gose)

AROMA: Clean lactic acidity; moderate raspberry sweetness; moderately-low salt; subtle spice from the rose hips. Like a jar of fresh jam at the beach. Light bready/doughy malt/wheat base. No hops (none needed). 10/12

APPEARANCE: Pinkish-copper hue (N/A SRM) over a somewhat cloudy body. Small amount of white foam evaporates fairly quickly. 2/3

FLAVOR: Pungent palette with a variety of flavors. Strong lactic acidity at all times. Salt is moderately-high throughout (a bit too high, as it overrides some of the other flavors). Raspberry adds a lightly sweet fruity flavor in the background (a bit too low, a richer, sweeter fruity component would help counter the salt). Malt/wheat base emerges as a moderate bready/doughy taste on the backend. Aftertaste is tart and salty. Difficult to distinguish the rose hips. No hops (none needed). 14/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium-light body; medium-high carbonation. Refreshing while in the mouth with a mouthwatering sensation in the aftertaste from the salt. Highly drinkable at only 4.2% ABV. Ideal warm weather/beach beer.

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Good modern take on an historical style. A little less salt and a little more fruit would make it perfect. 7/10
