Oude Geuze Boon

Best before date: 2/13/2037 (2014-15 brewing season)

Judged to 2015 BJCP Style Guidelines for: 23E Gueuze

AROMA: Moderately sour with a clean lactic aroma. Traditional farmhouse qualities are also apparent along with white and green fruits. Wheat base is present and slightly bready. Very faint lightstrike from the green bottle, but it blends with the natural aromas well. No alcohol presence. 11/12

APPEARANCE: Hazy pale orange/amber hue (5-7 SRM). Small white sudsy foam mostly dissipates. 2/3

FLAVOR: A complex melange of various farmhouse and fruity flavors. Sourness is evident immediately, though only at a medium-high level. Palette quickly imparts flavors of green pear, white grape, grapefruit, green apple and just a touch of honey. Wheat and wild character combine for a lovely farmhouse/countryside quality. Brett is also a noticeable flavor component, especially on the finish with a moderate tartness and drying sensation. No hops or alcohol presence (none needed). 18/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium-light body; high carbonation. Crisp and effervescent at all times, though never a challenge to drink. Feels lighter than 7% ABV, yet it is remarkably refreshing for a non-session brew. 5/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Close to perfect for the style and quite enjoyable as a beer in general. 10/10
