Sycamore Mountain Candy IPA

Fill date: ?

Judged to 2015 BJCP Style Guidelines for: 21A American IPA

AROMA: Prominent American hop aroma with stand citrus and tropical fruit notes. Slight candy-like character as well. Slightly grassy. Malt base is present and slightly sweet, but has no distinctive features (none needed). No alcohol presence; clean fermentation. 10/12

APPEARANCE: Slightly hazy amber hue (4-5 SRM). Moderately-low white foam never completely dissipates and leaves a scant amount of lacing. 2/3

FLAVOR: Medium-high hop flavor with fruity characteristics of pink grapefruit, and assorted tropical fruits. There is a candy-like taste reminiscent of Sweet Tarts or Smarties. Actual bitterness is about moderate, though attenuation seems to be rather high so as not to have any lingering malty sweetness or bready character (just a generic clean pale malt base for balance). No alcohol presence; clean fermentation. 15/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium body; moderation carbonation. Texture is smooth. Hops linger but are not harshly astringent. Quite drinkable at 7.5% ABV, though it feels like a lighter brew. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Solid, to-spec, West Coast-style IPA. Doesn't break any molds, but is fun to drink. 8/10
